Hi! I was taken from my homeland in the rainforest when I was very young. I was probably smuggled into America and I was treated quite differently from the birds bred and raised here. I am at least 70 years old… It has been hard on me and many others like me. Our diets were much different and we suffered a great deal due to poor nutrition. They seem to know a great deal more now. As a result of all of this I have scoliosis, arthritis, deformed feet, a torn eyelid, cataracts, and a large lump on my head. I also have a dried up preen gland and my wings are nearly fused; they can only be opened half way before it really starts to hurt.
My initial vet bill should have been well over $700.00 but Dr. Bankstahl understood my plight and helped where he could. I need a lot of tests still run to check numerous organ functions even before he starts to do x-rays. In the meantime Knapptime has been tasked to get a lot more weight on me as well as do physical therapy on me in several places.
My next few vet bills will probably be around $700.00 each month for the next few months then it should stabilize to around $80.00 a month for the rest of my life, not including medicine. I guess at this point in my life you'd call me a geriatric Greenwing macaw...
I was told by several of my friends that people are a lot kinder than they were when I was a young chick so I could expect more help, understanding, and love. I guess only time will tell.
