1.) First make an appointment with us, during your appointment let the staff know your intention to
adopt, ask for adoption form, fill the adoption form out, return filled out adoption form.
2.) Next you must
"Volunteer yourself to Knapptime Adoption Rescue and Education (K.A.R.E)"
. During the time you are volunteering a bird will "choose" you as his/her person. After that occurs you begin weekly volunteering, four to six weeks dependant upon various criteria. Much depends on the birds emotional needs.
Volunteering is more than just visiting with the bird, it's
learning what it is to be a dedicated bird owner...

Cleaning cages are a regular occurrence at K.A.R.E.
Helping with the bird chores are also included.
First you learn
Next you do...
You keep the birds area clean by sweeping, Vacuuming, Changing the birds papers, mopping and
shampooing
the carpets in the bird areas when needed...
This is just the beginning! We try to use the dish washer but sometime You have to get dirty...

You are expected to assist with fund raisers to help pay
for the birds medical bill...

You help and learn in the Clinics...

We will train you in poopology, your birds nutritional requirements, and birdie
first aid...
Poop, not the best subject to talk about but necessary.
What should you feed your bird/birds?

What mixes together and
what fresh foods are "ok" for your bird/birds.
We will also train you in birdie first aid, give you a list of local Avian Vet's
and show you what you need in your first aid kit for your birdie.
You will "not" be allowed to take a bird from K.A.R.E. with out a first aid Kit!!!
From nails to pulling blood feathers...

You could even have to give your bird "CPR!" Do
you know how???
The best part is you get to
spend time with a lot of wonderful birds!

3.) At the end of your "required visit" time period you will show your first aid kit and make
arrangements for adoption fee's. You will be briefed on what you can expect from K.A.R.E.
over the next 90 days. It is at this point that you start your 90 day foster of the bird or
birds you are adopting. During this time period K.A.R.E. will visit
with you and the bird/birds you are adopting once announced and once unannounced each month...
This is not an option!!!
4.) After the honeymoon period (90 day foster) is over. You will finalize your adoption of
the bird/birds with K.A.R.E. We recommend you continue to be part of the K.A.R.E family as
we provide a number of community services for bird owners and there pets.
Special Note: If at any time, even after the bird/birds are adopted, we find the birds are
badly treated or neglected, K.A.R.E. reserves the right to take back custody of said bird/birds
at the expense of the bird owner/care taker!!!
